Datalogging your vehicle requires SCT Livelink or Diablosport DataViewer. It is important that your device is up-to-date and you are using the most current software version.
Generally, 4 different types of logs are needed (automatic owners will have a 4th). Each type is described below.
It is suggested to save these logs as separate files to reduce file size and to make them easier to read.
Supercharged vehicle owners - it is VITAL you do not perform a STEP TEST or GO WOT/GET INTO BOOST until instructed to do so
If you wish to submit a datalog, please visit our new request page
Idle - 10min from cold and hot start
Each remote tune begins by logging idle. After you have loaded in the startup tune, take a datalog of your vehicle idling. Unless it is running very poorly on our base tune, let your vehicle come up to full operating temperature. If you notice the check engine light on after the vehicle has been running then you should check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTC). After you have finished logging send us the log file and let us know if there are any codes.
Transmission (automatic vehicles only)
Automatic transmissions require a separate set of parameters to be selected when data logging a vehicle; however, it is important to note that the engine must be operating properly for the transmission to function properly. Automatic transmission tuning will allow a Bama Tuning Experience Specialist to fine tune shift points and pressures as well as torque converter lock and un-lock points.
Step Test - 5-15 sec at each step
A step tests is used to provide information in ‘steps’ of 500 rpm’s, about how the vehicle is running at part throttle speeds. Your vehicle must be in motion and under load for this test to have usable data. Steps logs must be done in a safe location. Step logs may also be done in a controlled environment, such as a dyno(but is not necessarily needed to preform this test). While driving your vehicle and logging, hold the engine speed as steadily as you can at the following RPM's each for roughly 5 to 15 seconds. It is important that the throttle position and rpm's do not increase or decrease as this can alter data. You can perform these steps in one continuous data log, no need to stop and start a fresh log for each step.
1500 RPM
2000 RPM
2500 RPM
3000 RPM
3500 RPM
4000 RPM
Once you have done this, allow the car to come back to idle and then stop recording. You should have a log that looks something like this :
Please save the log and email it to us. The main purpose of the Step Test is to see how much fuel correction the PCM is making at the given rpm as well as other factors such as engine load, and ignition timing.
Cruise
A cruise tests is used to provide information at cruising speeds about how the vehicle is running. Logs must be done in a safe location or in a controlled environment, such as on a dyno.
Wide Open Throttle (WOT)
DO NOT GO WIDE-OPEN THROTTLE UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY A BAMA SPECIALIST.
All 2010 and older vehicles will require an aftermarket wide-band air-fuel gauge with readings input into SCT LiveLink. The preferred location for the air-fuel sensor is in the exhaust collector upstream of the catalytic converter. Check out how to install and configure an analog gauge here
Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission will be sent a special “dyno lock” file, which will lock the transmission in the 1:1 gear and keep the torque converter locked at all times if this test is being preformed on a dyno.
All WOT logs should be done with the vehicle at full operating temperature. It is suggested to do this on a dyno or in a controlled "off-road” environment to avoid breaking any motor vehicle laws.
With the vehicle in 3rd or 4th gear at 2000 to 2500 RPM, open the throttle 100% and continue to your instructed redline. Please note the air fuel ratio you should see as this will be different depending on the vehicle and modifications. While making a WOT pull if the air fuel ratio does not reach the specified range within a few seconds (or 1000-1500rpm incline) you should abort the run and email the log for review. At any point during the WOT log if the engine appears to be running abnormally (detonation, pre-ignition, misfiring, breaking up, etc.) then abort the run. Once finished this log file can be emailed to your tuner for further adjustments if needed.
